Hyperhidrosis

Effective treatment for excessive sweating using botulinum toxin.

Duration

20-30 minutes

Recovery

No downtime

Results

Effective within 2-5 days, lasting 6-12 months

Hyperhidrosis treatment uses botulinum toxin injections to block the nerve signals that trigger excessive sweating in areas such as the underarms, palms, and soles. This safe, proven procedure provides months of relief, dramatically improving quality of life and confidence.

The treatment

How does it work?

Hyperhidrosis — excessive sweating beyond what the body needs for temperature regulation — is treated by injecting botulinum toxin into the affected area. The toxin works by blocking the release of acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter that activates the eccrine sweat glands. Without this chemical signal, the glands cannot produce sweat in the treated zone.

Before injection, we perform a starch-iodine test (Minor's test) to precisely map the areas of greatest sweat gland activity. This diagnostic step ensures that the botulinum toxin is placed exactly where it is needed for maximum effectiveness. The treated area is marked with a grid pattern, and the toxin is injected at regular intervals using an ultra-fine needle.

The sweat-blocking effect begins within 2 to 5 days and reaches full efficacy at about 2 weeks. Results typically last 6 to 12 months, with many patients experiencing longer durations with repeated treatments. The body continues to regulate temperature normally through sweating in untreated areas, so the procedure does not interfere with your body's thermoregulatory function. For most patients, this treatment is transformative — eliminating the daily anxiety and social discomfort associated with uncontrolled sweating.

Candidates

Who is it for?

This treatment is ideal for individuals who suffer from primary hyperhidrosis — excessive sweating that occurs without an identifiable cause and significantly impacts daily life. Common areas include the underarms (axillary hyperhidrosis), palms (palmar hyperhidrosis), and soles of the feet (plantar hyperhidrosis). Patients who seek this treatment typically describe how excessive sweating affects their clothing choices, professional interactions, and social confidence. If you find yourself constantly worried about visible sweat stains, avoid handshakes, or layer clothing regardless of the weather, you are an excellent candidate. The treatment is appropriate for adults of all ages and provides reliable, dramatic relief that most patients wish they had discovered sooner.

Frequently asked questions

No. The botulinum toxin only affects a small portion of the body's total sweat glands. Your body has millions of sweat glands distributed across your entire skin surface, and the untreated areas continue to regulate your temperature normally. There is no medical risk to blocking sweat production in a localized area.

The injections target the very superficial sweat glands and do not affect the deeper muscles or nerves that control hand movement. Some patients experience temporary mild weakness that resolves within a few days. Most patients report improved grip and dexterity because their palms are no longer slippery from sweat.

You can return to normal activities immediately after the procedure. We recommend avoiding intense exercise and hot environments for 24 hours. The injection sites may show tiny bumps that disappear within a few hours. Most patients schedule the treatment during a regular day and resume all activities right away.
